Peace Lily botanically known as Spathiphyllum is famous as the most beautiful indoor flowering plant. We named it “Beauty Queen” due to its crown look.

A white flag is considered as the symbol of peace, the curved white flower of peace lily resembles a peaceful white flag; thus, it is named.

Best soil for White Sails

For the ultra growth of peace lily, use well-drained soil. Soggy soil will reduce its life. You can also use the mixture of peat soil, pertile, and sand with an equal ratio to grow peace lily.

As plants leach the nutrients out from the soil, you need to replace it with fresh nutrient soil after every two years.

Container or pot for indoor plantation

Select a pot having a drainage hole at its bottom with almost double of the root ball in size. Fill it with drained soil up to the one inch below the rim of the container.

You can propagate this plant using rhizomes or seeds process.

Let the soil to dry at least one inch in depth from the upper side. You can check this by poking your finger into the ground.

If you feel its time to water the plant, then water it. The best way is to water it in a manner that water drips from the bottom but never allow water to sit in for the whole day.

If you see the outer edge of the leaves become brown, it means you forget to water for many days. The solution for this situation is to water the plant very well & cut-off the brown part of the leaves.

Humidity level for Spathiphyllum

Peace lily feels better in high humidity conditions. Mist the leaves at least twice in a week (Especially in summer) with the help of spray bottle. It’ll also clean the leaves from dust.

Note:

The white snail plant is very sensitive to chlorine and fluoride. It is advised to use filtered water or use water which spent at least 24 hours in room temperature.

Light Requirement

It  requires medium bright but indirect light. Direct sunlight can harm the leaves (It turns brown).

For outdoor, select a shady place with ambient light conditions and for indoor plantation, avoid to choose the place with strong fluorescent lights.

Near to east-facing window is the perfect place for Spathe Flower, because it allows rays of the morning, which are beneficial but avoid the high-intensity rays of afternoon.

Necessary temperature

Peace lily has a tropical nature, which means it can’t withstand in cold conditions. Best considered temperature for peace lily is 65°F to 85°F.

Fertilizers for peace lily

Peace lily doesn’t demand any fertilizer for its standard growth. However, if you want to grow exceptionally large, then you can fertilize it. One thing you should have to remember is to take care of feeding. If you notice green flowers, it means you over-fertilized the plant.

Experts recommendation is 20:20:20 ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Sometimes mold spores or mildew occurs due to high humid environment. It causes discomfort, especially for sensitive people.

It can be allergic by several means such as eyes & skin irritation and asthma.

However, you don’t need to worry about mold spores in the presence of peace lily. As mentioned earlier, peace lily likes humidity, so it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air results in reducing mildew.

You can place this plant in the washroom as well to overcome the humidity.
